A SPLENDORED THING
The band on this album has a unique set of instruments, a combination never heard in jazz before. It is a trio of voice, piano and bas, supported by seven horns: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon (doubling baryton sax), French horn, trumpet and trombone. Not using drums has affected the way the arrangements are written and the way the music is performed.
Elisabeth Melander is one of Sweden’s top singers, who easily moves over the genre boundaries but she often returns to jazz. Håkan Rydin has toured over many parts of the world and performed with among others Thad Jones, Red Mitchell, Enrico Rava, Pepper Adams and Kim Parker. His style of playing has been described as ”lyrical and cooking”.
